Beyonce Kicks Off Formation World Tour, Dedicates Last Song to Jay Z
The superstar performed "Halo" for her husband in Miami.
Beyonce kicked off her Formation World Tour on Wednesday evening in Miami.
Four days following the release of her Lemonade HBO special and drop of her new album, the 20-time Grammy-winning singer took the stage in Florida on the first leg of her 41-show global tour. She was a trending topic even before the show began because of merchandise at her concert that read "Boycott Beyonce."
She sang her new song "Formation," as well as "Sorry," "Run the World," "Baby Boy" and more favorites. During an interlude, the band even played Prince's "Purple Rain" as the audience sang along.
Jay Z was photographed at the venue earlier in the day, and fans waited for him to join her onstage, but the appearance never happened. Amid infidelity rumors (In Lemonade, Beyonce alludes throughout that her husband cheated on her and wails in the narrative movie, "Are you cheating on me?”) following the release of her visual album, he attended the concert, but stayed in the audience for the night.
Beyonce ended the night with "Halo," adding in a shout out to Jay Z and her daughter Blue Ivy. "I want to dedicate this song to my beautiful husband. I love you so much. Blue, I love you so much." She also dedicated the night to Prince, saying "thank you for your beautiful music."
Tidal remains the only on-demand streaming service with access to Lemonade, but the songs are available to listen to on Pandora and are for purchase on iTunes.
The Formation tour will span across the U.S. and Europe, with its finale show playing Aug. 3, 2016 in Barcelona, Spain.
