The Many Outfit Changes of Beyonce at the VMAs

The queen slayed in showstopping looks.

From the moment Beyonce stepped onto the VMAs red carpet, the Twitterverse was abuzz with commentary and opinions on her ice-queen Francesco Scognamiglio couture gown — both positive and not so positive. But for those who perhaps weren’t such big fans of her frothy look, which she paired with Lorraine Schwartz earrings (daughter Blue Ivy Carter also wore diamonds by the jewelry designer), Beyonce changed several more times throughout the evening.

The Lemonade mastermind must have had an entire wardrobe trailer to herself. Out of a cloud of smoke, she emerged for her much-anticipated performance in a Ralph & Russo wide-brim white hat and white silk-organza cape with flower-cutout shoulder embellishment, which topped layers of chiffon. As the show continued, she lost the layered angelic look and transformed, uncovering a strong-shouldered black-lace bodysuit with fishnets and over-the-knee patent-leather boots.

She wowed the audience with her dance moves and impeccable body as the performance wore on, adding a fluffy white, black and burgundy fur coat midway through and dramatically crouching in a ring of fire. When it came time to accept her award for best female video, Beyonce was not back in her original gown but rather in an Elie Saab golden-lace jumpsuit, complete with cape. The ensemble was not the only memorable thing about the acceptance: She also dedicated her award to the city of New Orleans.

As if she hadn’t stunned enough, Bey changed one last time before she collected her video of the year award for "Formation." Her last look was like the finale of a traditional runway show: the wedding gown, designed by Barcelona-based brand YolanCris. The bridal and eveningwear label was founded in 2005 by two sisters from Barcelona, Yolanda and Cristina.

The sheer confection featured puffy sleeves, lace trim and embellished applique flowers. Along with lots of diamonds on her ears, Beyonce complemented the gown with a giant smile as she accepted her Moonman.
