Beyonce's Formation World Tour Wardrobe by the Designer Sketches
An illustrated version of the singer's hottest performance looks.
Beyonce took to the stage on the first night of her Formation World Tour in Miami in a crystal bustier with poufy embroidered velvet sleeves (a tattoo-style lace and crystal fishnet bodysuit underneath), a wide-brim black hat and lace-trimmed leather gloves by Dsquared2’s designers, Dan and Dean Caten. All of Queen Bey’s dancers were outfitted in similar bodysuits, also courtesy of Dsquared2.
"We are crazy about Beyonce — the look tells a story, drawing from the motifs of our recent women’s runway collection while, at the same time, visualizing the powerful themes in her new music," said the duo in a joint statement.
For her "Single Ladies" performance, Beyonce changed into another black crystal bodysuit, but this one featured military detailing and some seriously fierce over-the-knee snake-motif boots by Roberto Cavalli. The designer was also responsible for the scene-stealing (and Twitter-breaking) yellow dress in Lemonade. Holla!
A red-hot latex bodysuit by London-based designer Atsuko Kudo was teamed with nude fishnets and matching thigh-high boots for a "Crazy in Love" remix.
"Latex is a thoroughly modern fabric, but Beyonce and her stylist, Marni [Senofonte], asked if I could design something with elements of antebellum styling because she’s referencing that time and, in particular, how the history of it effects things now. It’s one of the main themes of the Formation Tour," Kudo tells Pret-a-Reporter. "Of course, Beyonce needed to be able to do everything she does onstage in terms of movement during a live performance."
No surprise here: Gucci’s creative director, Alessandro Michele, was called upon to create one-of-a-kind looks, which will be switched up throughout the run of the tour. The Gucci logo was featured prominently in the "Formation" video that dropped right before Beyonce’s Super Bowl performance in February. First up on tour? A red and ivory geometric sequined bodysuit with a "GucciGhost" mink fur (and backup dancers in red "GG" logo bodysuits).
