Beyonce's 'Homecoming' Nabs 6 Emmy Nominations
The singer's live concert film could snag her first win at the awards show.
The live concert film — which focuses on the singer’s historic 2018 Coachella performance as she was the first black woman to ever headline the event — garnered a total of six nominations.
Homecoming was nominated in the following categories: outstanding variety special (pre-recorded), outstanding writing for a variety special, outstanding production design for a variety special, outstanding costumes for a variety (non-fiction or reality programming), outstanding directing for a variety special and outstanding music direction.
Homecoming hit Netflix on April 17, and featured pre-event preparation, never-before-seen photos of the Knowles-Carter family and narration from the singer herself.
The Lemonade performer has been previously nominated but never won an Emmy. Those prior mentions include variety special and variety special directing for her visual album Lemonade in 2016, special class program for her On the Run Tour with husband Jay-Z and shortform entertainment for her 2013 Super Bowl Halftime Show.
With these nominations, the Grammy winner inches closer to a possible EGOT, when taking into account the potential for an Oscar with Jon Favreau’s The Lion King. If all goes well for her this awards season, Beyoncé would just be a Tony away from the famed honor.
The Primetime Emmy Awards will be held at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles and air live on Sunday, Sept. 22, at 8 p.m. ET on Fox. A host has not yet been announced.
