Brazilian Police Investigating Alleged Rape on 'Big Brother'
Millions witnessed the controversial incident broadcast on network TV Globo.
MEXICO CITY -- Police in Rio de Janeiro are investigating an alleged rape scene recently aired on the reality TV show Big Brother Brasil.
According to local media reports, housemate Daniel Echaniz may have forced himself on contestant Monique Amin while she was passed out in bed following a wild house party.
Producers at network TV Globo later expelled Echaniz and the show's presenter was quoted as saying the participant's behavior was "gravely inadequate."
Globo has removed the footage in question from its website, however, a video circulating online shows the scene captured by a night vision camera.
Now in its 12th season, Big Brother Brasil is known for its racy content and this isn't the first time that Endemol's Big Brother format has set off a sexual assault inquiry.
In 2006, a housemate in Australia was kicked off the show for rubbing his groin in the face of a female contestant. Then-Prime Minister John Howard told a radio program that Australian network Channel 10 should "get this stupid program off the air."
