Bill Clinton goes to bat for amfAR

Benefit set for May 21 during Festival de Cannes

Former president Bill Clinton will serve as an event chair for amfAR's annual Cinema Against AIDS benefit, set for May 21 at the Hotel du Cap-Eden-Roc in Antibes, France, during the 62nd annual Festival de Cannes.

Annie Lennox will perform a number of her hits.

Serving alongside Clinton, who has been actively involved in the international fight against AIDS, as chairs of the evening are Sharon Stone, Harvey Weinstein, Carine Roitfeld, Michelle Yeoh, Donatella Versace, Michael Litvak, Vincent Roberti, Bruce Weber and amfAR chairman Kenneth Cole.

The evening will be presented by Bold Films, the Weinstein Co. and Palisades Tartan. Hewlett-Packard and Chopard are co-sponsors.

The gala, being held at the Eden-Roc for the first time, will include a formal dinner and a live auction conducted by Weinstein and Stone to benefit amfAR, the Foundation for AIDS Research.

Last year's live auction raised $7 million, bringing the evening's fundraising total to more than $10 million, the most a single event has raised in amfAR history. Since 1993, the benefit has generated nearly $44 million for AIDS research.
