Bill Maher is putting forth a political call to action for the "rich fucks" in Los Angeles.

This week, the HBO talk show host donated $1 million to Senate Majority PAC, a political action committee dedicated to supporting Democrats running for the Senate. He also previously donated $1 million to Priorities USA Action, a Democratic Party-supporting super PAC, back in February 2012. Now, Maher is calling on others to do the same.

"In 2012 I did this, but this is different," he said Friday on HBO's Real Time With Bill Maher of his decision to donate in the past. "That was for my country. I thought it was very important that the first black president get a second term, and all the money in the country was going to the Republicans."

Continued Maher: "This time it's a little more personal. I'm worried about this country and really what's going to happen to it on a very existential level, including my own ass. I got a lot of messages from people yesterday saying 'good for you,' and I just want to say for the ones who are rich who said that: Not enough. Not enough to say that to me."

He added that Los Angeles has some of the richest zip codes. "L.A. has Beverly Hills and Bel Air and Brentwood and Malibu — it just goes on and on. Pacific Palisades. There's a lot of rich fucks and this is the time to step up," he said.

In addition to Maher's contribution, the political action committee has already raised millions from Hollywood A-listers, including Seth MacFarlane ($2 million in April), Univision chairman Haim Saban ($1 million in March), Netflix CEO Reed Hastings ($500,000 in March), Jeffrey Katzenberg ($250,000 in June), Michael Eisner ($150,000 in March) and Ari Emanuel ($100,000 in May).
