The program will air May 21 on ABC.

Dick Clark Productions and ABC on Monday announced the date for the 2017 Billboard Music Awards.

Kicking off the summer music season, the BBMAs will air live on Sunday, May 21, at 8 p.m. ET. No further details have been revealed regarding which artists will be in attendance or perform, but the show traditionally has featured music's hottest acts.

As for the nominees (which also have yet to be announced), the finalists for each award are based on "key fan interactions with music, including album and digital songs sales, radio airplay, streaming, touring and social engagement, tracked by Billboard and its data partners, including Nielsen Music and Next Big Sound," according to a release. The reporting period for next year's awards ends in March 2017.

Last year's BBMAs broadcast brought an average of 9.8 million viewers, marking the program's third-largest audience.
