Billboard Music Awards: Troye Sivan Named 'Kia's One to Watch'

Troye Sivan’s rising star will shine at the 2016 Billboard Music Awards. 

The Australian producer and artist on Monday was announced as the recipient of “Kia’s One to Watch,” an award established last year to support and highlight emerging artists. Tori Kelly was the inaugural winner.

Sivan has been invited to perform at upcoming Billboard Music Awards, which will air live at 8 p.m. ET/5 p.m. PT on Sunday, May 22. This year’s event will be hosted by BBMA vet Ludacris and first-time host Ciara and produced by dick clark productions.

For those fans wanting to share in Sivan's success story, Kia and Billboard have teamed to tell the Perth musician’s impressive journey via a behind-the-scenes glimpse at what will be his first BBMA performance. Beginning Monday, Sivan’s tale is being told at with additional content to roll out each day through May 23.  

Sivan’s BBMAs honor is recognition for making the incredible leap from bedroom producer to global recording star. His 2014 mini-album release, TRXYE, peaked at No. 5 on the Billboard 200 and its follow-up, the Wild EP, received social media praise from superstars Sam Smith and Taylor Swift and reached No. 5 in the U.S. and the U.K. Wild also opened at No. 1 in Australia. Sivan’s debut full-length album Blue Neighbourhood cracked the top 10 of the Billboard 200, and he can boast 20 million social media followers and almost 1 billion streams to date.

In addition to Sivan, performers on the night will include Justin Bieber, Celine Dion, DNCE, Fifth Harmony, The Go-Go’s, Demi Lovato, Shawn Mendes, Pink and Britney Spears, and a collaboration is confirmed between Nick Jonas and Tove Lo.
