Binoche 'Certified' for MK2 pic

CANNES -- Juliette Binoche has certified her participation in prolific Iranian director Abbas Kiarostami's latest film produced by Marin and Nathanael Karmitz, MK2 said Saturday.

"Certified Copy," set for an October or November shoot, tells the story of a middle-aged English writer who travels to Italy to promote his latest book and meets a young French woman and the pair head to San Gimignano.

The €4.5 million ($6.08 million) English-language project will film in Tuscany, and father and son Karmitz are seeking co-production funding from the U.K. and Italy. The lead male role hasn't yet been cast, with Kiarostami saying at a news conference Saturday in Cannes: "I'm looking for him everywhere."

Kiarostami first worked with Karmitz for his 1999 film "The Wind Will Carry Us." "It's a script so unexpected for Marin and so unexpected for me. Now we're ready to fight for the film," Binoche said.
