Parker, who helmed and starred in the Sundance sensation, will write, direct and produce the new project.

Birth of a Nation writer/director/star/producer Nate Parker has sold a new project to Legendary.

Parker, whose drama about slave rebellion leader Nat Turner will hit theaters in October, will once again write, direct and produce this new project. It's an original idea from Parker, but the logline is being kept under wraps.

Birth of a Nation took Sundance by storm in February. It sold for a record $17.5 million deal to Fox Searchlight, and also won the Audience Award and Grand Jury Prize.

Parker was previously known for his work as an actor in films like Beyond the Lights, but stopped acting to focus on making his passion project, Birth of a Nation. Since its success, he's also signed on to write the real-life wrestling story based on Lisa Fenn’s memoir Carry On for Walden Media. He's repped by CAA and Anonymous Content.
