Bittersweet Results for Spanish Box Office in First Quarter
Domestic productions' revenues rose over the same period last year, while overall sales dropped.
MADRID -- Pedro Almodovar's I'm so Excited and Spanish-Canadian co-production Mama buoyed Spanish films' performance at the domestic box office some 37 percent for the first quarter of 2013 with 3 million tickets sold, according to figures released by Rentrak Spain.
Mama with 8.2 million and Excited with 4.5 million were followed closely by Oriol Paolo's thriller The Body with 3 million since Jan. 1.
Even so, the good news contrasts with the overall 7 percent drop in moviegoers at 19.5 million tickets and a 2.65 percent dip in sales.
