A Los Angeles federal court judge last week ordered Web site to pay $371,000 for infringing on the copyrights of Warner Bros. and Paramount. The court found that the site contributed to copyright infringement by actively searching, identifying, collecting, organizing, indexing and posting links to Web site that contained pirated materials.


Citing volatile markets, RealNetworks said Wednesday that it will not make the necessary regulatory filings for spinning off its casual games business in 2008 as previously planned. The company also said it lost $4.5 million in the third quarter on revenue that rose 5% to $152 million. RealNetworks blamed lower interest income and higher operating expenses.


Shares of Apple rose 4.6% on Wednesday after an analyst said the firm is in a strong position to launch a "substantial" stock buyback. Apple's stock closed at $104.55 after rising as high as $109.54 intraday. Sanford Bernstein analyst Toni Sacconaghi said Apple could use its cash war chest of $24.5 billion for buybacks that would boost next fiscal year's earnings per share.

It looks like the Beatles are coming to "Rock Band." The Beatles' Apple Corps and MTV have set a news conference for today to announce an "exclusive agreement to develop a global music project." Reps for the Beatles have been in talks with MTV's "Rock Band" team for months.
