'The Bleeding Edge' Trailer: 'Hunting Ground' Director Takes on Medical Device Industry
The Kirby Dick-directed film, hitting Netflix later this month, looks at the dangerous implications of commonly used high-risk medical devices, the majority of which never require a single clinical trial.
Academy Award-nominated filmmaker Kirby Dick (The Hunting Ground, The Invisible War) investigates risks in the medical device industry in the official trailer for The Bleeding Edge.
The Netflix original documentary, which premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival and is set to hit the streaming service on July 27, looks at the risks of devices and procedures that received little to no medical testing.
Dick directs with frequent collaborator Amy Ziering, with whom he worked on both Hunting Ground and Invisible War, producing.
The film provides a warning about the powerful companies that control much of the American health care system, and lifts the curtain on secretive dealings with such businesses. A recent study by Johns Hopkins found that more than 250,000 people in the U.S. die each year due to medical mistakes, making it the third leading cause of death after heart disease and cancer.
In his review The Hollywood Reporter's Frank Scheck calls the film, "a terrifying eye-opener."
