Blogger Tavi Gevinson Lands in LA to Promote Her Book 'Rookie Yearbook One'
The sixteen year-old fashion blogger/editor will appear at three events in Los Angeles, Hollywood and Brentwood, aimed at reaching her teenage girl fanbase and more.
Tavi Gevinson launched the wildly successful Style Rookie blog in 2007. She was 11. From her parents' basement, she wrote about personal style and chronicled her own fashion development. Word spread. By 2011, she was also writing about culture, music and art. Fashion houses such as Rodarte, Miu Miu, Herve Leger and Alexander Wang started to invite her to cover their runway shows from the front row.
Now 16, the StyleRookie.com founder and editor-in-chief has become a brand unto herself. She recently published her first book titled Rookie Yearbook One. The book contains unique content and lots more from Rookiemag.com. There are over 50 regular contributors, many of whom are – you guessed it – teenage girls. But there are also older celebrities, including Jack Black, Joss Whedon, Zooey Deschanel, Aubrey Plaza, David Sedaris, and Sky Ferreira.
Rookie.com has become the voice of smart, creative young girls. It supports individuality and deals with teen issues from dating, love, body image, eating disorders, sexual harassment, alcohol, music, film and literature. And boys.
Tavi already has friends in high places such as Vogue editor Anna Wintour, Barney's infamous Simon Doonan, actor James Franco and Oscar-nominated actress and Miu Miu model Hailee Steinfeld.
Gevinson even appeared on Jimmy Fallon's talk show where she taught him a signature move from her book called The Art of the Bitch Face. And the really good news for her Los Angeles fans is that she is now in LA. That's right. This weekend.
She’ll be at Diesel Brentwood (225 26th St. Santa Monica) tonight (Nov. 9) from 7-9 p.m. for a reading and a signing. From 2-5 p.m. on Saturday (Nov. 10) you can find her at Nerdist Showroom at Meltdown (7522 Sunset Blvd Hollywood) for a zine workshop, reading, signing and conversation.
She winds up her LA visit on Saturday night at Space 15 Twenty (1520 N. Cahuenga Blvd, Los Angeles) for a dance party with live music by Best Coast. Start time is 7 p.m. and ends whenever your curfew is.
So if you’re not a teenage girl, go find one (maybe two) and bring them to one of this weekend's Rookie events. It's bound to be a lot of fun and may make you feel very young again. Or very old.
