Blu-ray prices set to fall

Economic downturn, download services to blame

BRUSSELS -- Holiday prices for Blu-ray players may tumble to about $150 thanks to the economic downturn and competition from download services, analysts ABI Research have warned.

"There is more competition than expected from download alternatives such as Xbox 360 and the Roku Netflix player, TiVo and Amazon," ABI analyst Steve Wilson said.

He added that there are also new opportunities for Blu-ray, including LG and Samsung's deals that allow users to download movies and TV shows straight from Netflix.
