Blue Man Group eyes expansion

Report: 3D film, video game in focus after funding round

The Blue Man Group has quietly lined up millions in new funding and is looking to expand its brand beyond the stage with a 3D movie and a possible video game, among other things.

According to the New York Post, the three founders tapped New York boutique investment bank Mesa for a funding round earlier this year, and private equity firm GF Capital committed more than $25 million for a minority stake in the venture, which was valued at $125 million.

"GF Capital was not interested in milking it or changing what we do," Stanton told the Post. "Their focus is on helping us build value."

Stanton said the blue men expect to start production soon on a National Geographic Entertainment 3D film called "Mind Blast," scheduled for a 2011 release.
