Blueprint promotion sends Madariaga north

TORONTO -- Canadian producer Blueprint Entertainment on Wednesday said it is sending Elizabeth Madariaga from Los Angeles to Toronto to develop Canadian primetime series as executive director of development.

Madariaga's promotion is notable as Canadian producers generally send executives from Toronto to Los Angeles to develop series for international sale. Rarely are promoted executives routed northwards.

A former Sci Fi Channel executive, Madariaga joined Toronto-based Blueprint in 2002, working from its Los Angeles satellite office. Appointed manager of development in 2004, she helped oversee production on several pilots, series and telefilms including "Good Girl/Bad Girl" for Oxygen and "2 Kings" for UPN.

In Toronto, Madariaga will report to Brenda Greenburg, Blueprint's vp creative affairs, with an eye toward developing primetime and kids series for the Canadian marketplace.

"(Madariaga's) experience working in the U.S. and within the company will be invaluable in Toronto as we continue to expand our slate of projects with a view to developing shows that work for the Canadian and international markets," Blueprint co-founder and president Noreen Halpern said.
