Board breaks down German art house auds

Nearly 40% are moviegoers 50 or older

MUNICH -- A study of German art house cinemas by the German Film Board, presented on the sidelines of the current Leipzig Art Cinema Conference, revealed that 36.7% of the art house audience consists of so-called "best-agers" -- people 50 or older.

Women outnumber men 54% to 46%, and more than half of those women possess some higher education.

German art film audiences are often unmoved by marketing, the study found, and tend to get their movie recommendations from film critics.
