Bollywood actor Dutt in jail

NEW DELHI -- Bollywood actor Sanjay Dutt was sent to jail late Monday following his earlier sentencing for illegal possession of guns.

Dutt was sentenced to six years in jail on July 31 after a special anti-terrorism court found him guilty on charges of acquiring guns from key plotters of the 1993 Mumbai serial blasts that killed 257 people.

After the July sentence, Dutt spent 24 days in jail but was granted bail in August by India's Supreme Court on the condition that he report to authorities once he was officially served a copy of the 4,300 page judgment, which happened Monday.

Television networks carried live pictures of Dutt being taken to a prison in Mumbai, after which he was transferred to another jail in the western city of Pune.

Dutt's lawyers said they will appeal in the Supreme Court and seek bail again.
