Bomb attack on Colombia's RCN thwarted

Five suspected members of FARC were detained

MEXICO CITY -- Colombian authorities have arrested five people suspected of plotting a car bomb attack on private television network RCN.

Defense Minister Juan Manuel Santos told reporters at a news conference late Wednesday that five alleged members of the rebel group FARC were detained with 150 lbs. of explosives.

He added that the suspects had planned to attack RCN's headquarters in Bogota and a military compound on Thursday, Colombia's Independence Day.

RCN representatives were not available for comment.
