Bomb explodes at NHK bureau

No injuries in blast at Fukuoka office

TOKYO -- An incendiary device exploded at the Fukouka bureau of pubcaster NHK (Japan Broadcasting Corp.) on Sunday evening, damaging the building's entrance but causing no injuries.

At about 5:30 p.m. local time, the bureau's closed-circuit security camera recorded a man wearing a hat, mask and sunglasses leaving a bag in between the double doors where the explosion occurred.

Police and firefighters arrived on the scene soon after, finding the remnants of a bag believed to have contained a container full of gasoline and a cooking gas canister.

The explosion damaged the ceiling in the entrance but fire failed to take hold. The police are treating the case as arson.

A staffer at the bureau said there had no been no threats made or any other known trouble.
