Brandenburg to keynote SMPTE

Speaker is director of the Fraunhofer Institute

Karlheinz Brandenburg, director of the Fraunhofer Institute for Digital Technology in Ilmenau, Germany, will deliver the keynote address at SMPTE 2008: Annual Tech Conference & Expo.

Brandenburg, who has been involved in pioneering such digitial technologies as theMP3 and AAC MPEG audio standards, will present his vision for the future of digital media, including immersive entertainment, 3-D audio and video, and interactivity.

Produced by the Society of Motion Picture and Television Engineers, the conference and tradeshow kicks off with Brandenburg's keynote on Oct. 28 at the Renaissance Hotel in Hollywood.

"Dr. Brandenburg is a true visionary whose work has transformed the media and entertainment industries in immeasurable ways," said Kimberly Maki, SMPTE and SMPTE 2008 executive director.

SMPTE 2008 runs Oct. 28-30.
