Brian Philips is new CMT president

50 million subscribers added on exec's watch

Brian Philips has been promoted to president of CMT.

Philips, who was upped from executive vp and GM, will continue to oversee CMT, CMT Films,, CMT Pure Country and all brand extensions.

He will continue to be based in Nashville and report to MTV Networks Music and Logo Group president Van Toffler.

"Brian's got the soul of a poet, the creative pulse of a musician and the mind of a sage TV executive" said Toffler. "He's got undeniable integrity and most of all -- a true love of music."

Philips has been at the helm of the country music network since 2001. During his tenure, the network's subscriber base has more than doubled from 38 to 88 million households.

In the past year, the network also has broadened its appeal with such reality hits as "Gone Country" and "Can You Duet."

Philips also launched CMT Films in 2005.
