Bright Prints are Rising -- to the Bottom
Recent looks sported by Beyonce and Minka Kelly herald the arrival of colorful, below-the-waist fashion choices for women.
For celebs on the red carpet, it's all about looking slender -- especially since we all know the camera makes everyone look larger and wider. Hence when we see prints, they usually show up on blouses, tops or jackets, accompanying slimming bottom silhouettes like black leggings, pencil jeans or black skirts.
As for printed bright pants? A major no no! But Minka Kelly rocked a pair of white and bright Dolce print silk pants for a party in Sydney Australia this week, matching them with a leather top from Theory.
At the same time, Beyonce strolled Manhattan in an Etro bright multi-patterned maxi skirt, and this baby was BRIGHT!
Needless to say it takes some confidence to pull off these audacious looks, but these two are fashion leaders, not followers. But their fearlessness likely heralds a wave of printed pants and long skirts in some very unexpected places as the weather improves, perhaps including the red carpet at summer film fests. But last year, Keira Knightley rocked a wild printed Mary Katranzou dress at the Venice Film Fest, and the attention that dress got suggests that more prints will soon be popping off of runways and red carpets around the world.
