The leadership move comes ahead of Britbox CEO Soumya Sriraman stepping down from the streaming joint venture for the BBC and ITV at the end of October.

BritBox, the U.K. content-focused streaming service launched by BBC Studios and ITV, has promoted Emily Powers to executive vp and head of Britbox North America.

That follows the North American streamer announcing that Britbox president and CEO Soumya Sriraman will step down at the end of October. Powers, who has been helping oversee the upcoming launch of BritBox in Australia, most recently served as senior vp and commercial head and now adds editorial and creative control of the core North American business to her responsibilities.

“Emily is an essential part of the BritBox team who has been instrumental to BritBox’s early development, followed by rapid growth and significant successes since launch," Rebecca Glashow, president BBC Studios Americas said in a statement.

Sriraman got Britbox as a standalone streaming video-on-demand platform to 1.5 million subscribers. Earlier this year, the streamer said it will expand to 25 countries worldwide.

“I look forward to guiding the growth of BritBox in North America. Over the past five years I have had the privilege of being part of the senior team that has transformed BritBox from an initial concept to a hit service with more than 1.5 million subscribers, which in turn has laid the foundation for global expansion. In this new role, I will look for innovative ways to continue fostering the service’s success,” said Powers in her own statement.
