It ends very well.

The team behind 'Mudblood and the Book of Spells' needs $63,000 to make U.K.'s first Potter fan film

Not willing to bank on the outside chance of another official film installment of J.K. Rowling's Harry Potter franchise, a group of British Potter die-hards have started a Kickstarter campaign to shoot a fan film.

Students from various universities in Manchester are looking to raise $63,000 (£40,000) within a month to fund a movie that would follow the story of another wizard expelled from Hogwarts, said Cameron Cairnduff, one of the students involved, to the BBC. If they raise the money, the students hope to start filming in the new year before premiering the film at the end of 2015.

Cairnduff told the BBC that their new film "didn't want to rip off Harry Potter" but would explore issues raised by the books. He added that their new story, entitled Mudblood and the Book of Spells, would focus on the lives of "muggle-born wizards." The script was written with input from Potter fans on Internet forums such as Pottermore and Mugglenet.

Bretten Lord (Lad: A Yorkshire Story) will play the lead role of Charlie in Mudblood, a wizard forced out of Hogwarts after retaliating to abuse from other students. Forbes KB, who played Lorren in Game of Thrones, is also part of the cast that is rounded out by 100 volunteers.

If made, the film would be the first U.K. fan film inspired by the Harry Potter franchise. "There are no good Harry Potter fan films — they're all American and have low production values," the film and TV postproduction student said.

Cairnduff said he had got in touch with Rowling, sending her a "piece of parchment," but he has yet to get a response from the author, who recently published new Potter-related material this past Halloween
