Robert Redford is starring as Dan Rather in the adaptation of the memoir by Mary Mapes

Bruce Greenwood has joined the cast of Truth, James Vanderbilt's story of Dan Rather’s fall from grace.

The movie stars Robert Redford as Rather and Cate Blanchett as Mary Mapes, Rather’s producer, and is currently shooting in Australia. Vanderbilt wrote the script and is making his directorial debut.

Greenwood will play Andrew Heyward, president of CBS News, the man who ultimately fires Mapes.

The movie is based on Mapes’ memoir Truth and Duty: The Press, the President, and the Privilege of Power. It tells of the firestorm that erupted in September of 2004 after Rather reported that George W. Bush had received special treatment while serving in the Air National Guard during the Vietnam War. After it came to light that some documents were suspected to be forgeries, Rather’s reputation was badly damaged and Mapes was fired.

Dennis Quaid, Elizabeth Moss, John Benjamin Hickey and Topher Grace also are in the cast.

Greenwood played Captain Christopher Pike in the recent J.J. Abrams Star Trek movies and recently wrapped Spectral, Legendary’s supernatural action movie that also stars James Badge Dale.

He is repped by Gersh and Binder & Associates.
