BSkyB ups MacDonald, adds duties

LONDON -- British Sky Broadcasting controller of acquisitions Lisa MacDonald has been promoted to deputy director of Sky Movies and Sky Box Office, Sky Movies director Ian Lewis said Thursday.

In her new role, MacDonald will continue to oversee all of Sky's film acquisition and rights negotiations and will take on the additional responsibilities of overseeing the development of Sky's VOD and PPV movie services. She also will help cultivate a wide-ranging loyalty drive aimed at forging closer links between Sky Movies and its customers.

MacDonald, who joined the satcaster in 1998, has been heavily involved in the renegotiations of Sky's major studio contracts, specifically Sky's HD studio content deals.

"Lisa's formidable negotiating skills and reputation within the industry were a major factor in facilitating Sky Movies' successful recent re-brand to a genre-based service," Lewis said. "This new role will also allow her to develop our crucial added-value services such as VOD, in order to cement Sky Movies' position as the U.K.'s complete movie service."
