Bulgarian cable companies merge

CableTel, Evrokom Cable deal gets regulator approval

MOSCOW -- Bulgaria's Competition Protection Commission Monday approved the merger of the country's two largest cable TV operators, CableTel and Evrokom Cable, removing the last obstacle in the way of the largest merger ever in Bulgaria's cable television market.

Both companies have nationwide networks and provide Internet access and telephone services in addition to cable.

EvroCom, which is owned by Dutch company FN Cable Cooperatief U.A. through its Bulgarian subsidiary, FN Cable Holdings B.V, also broadcasts its own 24-hour television channel.
