Burberry Model Pays Tribute to David Bowie on the Runway
Hayett McCarthy walked with the musician's name scrawled across her open palms.
Both the entertainment and the fashion community were hit hard with last night's news that legendary rock star David Bowie had passed of cancer at the age of 69, and at today's Burberry show on the final day of London Collections: Men's, one model paid her respects in a unique way.
Burberry muse Hayett McCarthy walked the runway with palms facing forward to show "Bowie," which had been scrawled in black marker across both hands. Refinery29 reports that the event was not a planned element of the show and that McCarthy acted on her own accord. On Instagram the model explained of the event: "Nuff said today. Thank you @burberry for working with me and letting me be myself both on shoots and shows, always."
In addition to McCarthy's impromptu stunt, makeup artist Wendy Rowe gave her own Bowie-inspired touch by adding "glitter tears" to models, according to Teen Vogue. Rowe wrote on Instagram of the late singer, "What a shock!" and captioned a photo of him, "An inspiration in every way."
