Burns on fire with CBS, HBO projects
EmptyWriter-producer Brian Burns is having a busy development season with three projects at CBS and HBO.
At CBS, Burns is shepherding two dramas with his brother, filmmaker Edward Burns, both produced by CBS Par TV. The first is an ensemble about young arson investigators at the New York City Fire Department. The second is a psychological thriller whose premise is being kept under wraps.
The Burns' father is a retired NYPD police sergeant, and the two had been looking to do a TV series in that arena that wouldn't be just another New York cop show.
They were drawn to arson investigators, who Brian Burns describes as "the fire department's version of detectives."
"It's a such a unique job that very few people know about, so it felt like a cool area for a procedural," he said.
The two CBS projects mark a reteaming for the Burns brothers, who created "The Fighting Fitzgeralds" for NBC.
At HBO, Brian Burns has partnered with Dan Kennedy to create a comedy inspired by Kennedy's memoir, "Rock On: An Office Power Ballad," about a slacker getting a 9-to-5 job at a major record label.
Burns is exec producing the project with Sarah Condon. Kennedy will co-exec produce.
"Rock On" stems from Burns' relationship with HBO, where he served as a supervising producer on "Entourage" for three seasons.
Burns, who also is developing the feature comedy "The World's Greatest Brad," is repped by UTA and attorney Karl Austen. (partialdiff)
