The 22nd edition of South Korea's premier event will run Oct. 12-21.

The Busan International Film Festival on Monday unveiled the dates for its 22nd edition.

The South Korean event will raise its curtains Thursday, Oct. 12, for a 10-day run until Saturday, Oct. 21.

BIFF will open a little later than the first Thursday of October, as it has been tradition, due to the Korean Thanksgiving holiday that falls during that time frame in accordance with the lunar calendar cycle.

The 21st edition of the festival took place in October after a leadership shift, which saw the return of fest founder Kim Dong-ho as its first civilian chairman. A total 299 films from 69 countries were shown. It saw attendance plummet 27 percent, the first time figures dropped after years of breaking records, but the Asian Film Market, held during BIFF, garnered an all-time high of participants and boost in sales.

This year's market will be held Oct. 14-17.
