Butler named sr. vp music at Paramount


Paramount Pictures on Wednesday named Dan Butler senior vp business affairs and legal, music.

Butler, who segues to Paramount after an eight-year stint at Warner Bros. Pictures, will be responsible for negotiating deals with composers, songwriters, co-publishers, music supervisors, record labels, recording artists and producers for Paramount's motion pictures, soundtracks and home entertainment releases. He also will handle the acquisition of copyrights in new compositions and master recordings. Butler will report to executive vp Daniel Ferleger.

In making the announcement, Ferleger said: "Dan's experience and negotiating skills with both the traditional and online music community will be a strong asset to Paramount. He is a great addition to our team."

At Warners, where he was senior vp business and legal affairs, music, he brokered music agreements for the studio's theatrical projects and accompanying soundtrack albums, animated TV series and DVD/video releases. He joined Warners in 1998 as director of business and legal affairs.

Before Warners, Butler was an executive at Rysher Entertainment and MGM/UA Music. He began his career at the law firm Hill Wynne Troop & Meisinger.
