Buyers 'Zero' in on 9/11 doc


A documentary about the events of Sept. 11 featuring interviews with Nobel Prize winner Dario Fo and Gore Vidal has been creating buzz at the European Film Market among theatrical and broadcast distributors.

"Zero: An Investigation Into 9/11" is being repped by U.K.-based documentary sales experts Mercury Media after the London-based specialist struck a deal with Italian production company Telemaco to sell the film outside the Middle East, Belgium and Italy. Mercury already has secured its first sale of the Franco Farcassi- and Francesco Trento-directed film to Al Jazeera International.

One of the highlights of last year's RomaCinemaFest, "Zero" has been re-edited with an English voice-over for this year's Berlin International Film Festival and is screening in the market. The European Parliament will screen the film Feb. 26.

Mercury managing director Tim Sparke said the film's contents should encourage an independent investigation into the events of Sept. 11.

"It is our hope that the European Parliament will take up this challenge," Sparke said.
