Byrne wins Las Vegas comedy fest

NEW YORK -- Steve Byrne this weekend won the first-ever Stand Up or Sit Down Comedy Challenge at the second annual The Comedy Festival in Las Vegas.

Presented by TBS in partnership with MySpace and sponsored by Sierra Mist, the contest promised its winner $50,000 and a development deal.

TCF, organized by HBO and AEG Live, came to an end this weekend.

MySpace users voted for five Stand Up or Sit Down finalists in an online comedy competition. The finalists then performed in a one-hour special hosted by George Lopez at TCF.

Following the special, viewers could return to MySpace to vote for their favorite comedian.

Byrne was announced as the winner live on TBS during a break in the network's simulcast of the Comic Relief 2006 special Saturday.
