Camacho new partner at UTA

Two days after he was let go from CAA, top reality agent Michael Camacho has landed at UTA as a partner and head of the agency's alternative TV department.

The vast majority of Camacho's clients — including Mike Fleiss, Cris Abrego, Tom Forman, Allison Grodner, R.J. Cutler, Lisa Levinson, Anthony Dominici and Mike Nichols — are expected to follow him to UTA. The move is a major shot in the arm for UTA's up-and-coming reality department, whose client list includes Avalon Television, World of Wonder, 495 Prods. and "Project Runway" star Tim Gunn.

"I spent the first 15 years helping to build the premier nonfiction client list in the industry, and I'm excited to join UTA to continue that effort," Camacho said.

Camacho's team at UTA will include the current co-heads of the alternative TV department, Brett Hansen and Kary McHoul, and 10 other agents. He will become UTA's 20th partner.

"We admire Michael's vision and professionalism," UTA board member Peter Benedek said. "He is the consummate agent in the space."

Following Camacho's dramatic exit from CAA on Monday, he became the object of a "competitive and aggressive" courting by the other major agencies, a source said.

Camacho's abrupt departure from CAA stemmed from conflict-of-interest issues related to agency client Oprah Winfrey (HR 2/5). Camacho was on CAA's team that brokered Winfrey's deal with Discovery Communications for their recently announced joint venture OWN: The Oprah Winfrey Network and is said to have lobbied for the top position at the network.
