Canada to fete 'Slumdog' stars

Trio to receive emerging leadership awards

TORONTO -- The Cannes-to-Oscars dream run for impoverished "Slumdog Millionaire" child stars Ayush Khedekar, Rubina Ali and Azharuddin Ismail will hit Toronto in November when the trio are set to receive emerging leadership awards from the Canadian Council of Christians and Jews.

The Canadian organization said the "Slumdog Millionaire" kids will receive their tribute at the 62nd awards gala on Nov. 19 for their portrayals of young Mumbai slum residents in Danny Boyle's Oscar-winning feature.

Boyle and "Slumdog Millionaire" producer Christian Colson earlier provided housing and trust funds to Rubina Ali and co-star Azharuddin Ismail after their families lost their homes because of slum clearances in Mumbai.
