Canada to show 50 hours of Paralympics in HD

Daily 90-minute English-language highlights show

TORONTO -- The exclusive Canadian broadcaster for the 2010 Olympics games in Vancouver/Whistler plans to deliver 50 hours of Paralympics coverage in HD, it was announced Wednesday.

The local broadcast consortium will produce a daily 90-minute English-language highlights show to air on CTV, The Sports Network or Rogers Sportsnet. An accompanying French language package will air on cable sports services RDS or RIS Info Sports.

The 2010 Paralympics are set for March 12 to 21 in Vancouver and Whistler, British Columbia.

Hockey-mad Canadians will also view full coverage of Team Canada ice sledge hockey games, including the gold medal game.

The Canadian team earned the gold medal at the 2006 Turin games. In Turin, host broadcaster Canadian Broadcasting Corp. aired two hours of tape-delayed Paralympics coverage on each of the four weekend days.

The Olympic Broadcast Services consortium, which will produce the TV signal at the 2010 Olympics for international broadcasters, has yet to detail its Paralympics coverage.
