Canada's Family Channel announces pickups

'Angel on Campus,' 'Baxter' among series

TORONTO -- Canadian premium cable service Family Channel said Monday that it picked up the sitcom "Angel on Campus" from Temple Street Prods. and creator Frank van Keeken.

Family Channel acquired 13 half-hours of the live-action series about a teen angel-in-training that stars Demetrius Joyette and Dylan Everett.

The Canadian channel also bought Shaftesbury Films' "Baxter," another 13-part live action comedy set around a high school for the arts. The series stars Evan Williams; showrunner is Daphne Ballon. Shaftesbury Sales Co. is distributing internationally.

And Playghouse Disney Canada, a multiplex channel for Family Channel subscribers, bought "Stella and Sam," an animated preschool series from Radical Sheep Prods., and "Justin Time," another cartoon series from Guru Studio.
