Canada's 'Flashpoint' crosses the pond

ITV3 picks up cop drama, which airs on CBS in the U.S.

TORONTO -- Britain's ITV3 has picked up the Canadian cop series "Flashpoint," which airs Thursday nights on CBS.

ITV3 acquired 13 episodes of the series from international distributors Alchemy Television and TeleMunchen Gruppe for its fall schedule.

"Flashpoint was really this year's surprise summer hit on Network TV in the USA. The series already has made the unusual leap from Canadian TV to CBS in the states and now will find its perfect home in the U.K. when it arrives on ITV3," said Jay Kandola, director of acquisitions at ITV3.

The Canadian series, which is produced by Pink Sky Entertainment and Avamar Entertainment, portrays an elite Toronto tactical police unit.

Flashpoint has drawn an average 1.17 million viewers on Canadian broadcaster CTV since its debut in mid-July. CBS, which picked up the show during the WGA strike this year, has pulled in an average weekly audience of 7 million viewers, initially on Fridays and then Thursdays at 10 p.m.
