Canadian police seize 40,000 pirated discs

Counterfeit ring uncovered in Toronto

TORONTO -- Police in Toronto raided a DVD piracy operation and seized more than 40,000 pirated DVDs, most of which were Hollywood releases, along with DVD burners.

Detective Marcel Chiasson of the Toronto police service's 14 Division told reporters during a news conference Friday that that a police officer came upon the counterfeit ring while responding to a nuisance complaint in the Bloor Street/Lansdowne area of the city.

No arrests were announced as the investigation is ongoing.
