Canal DTT sat service growing rapidly

PARIS -- Canal Plus has seen its free digital terrestrial television service via the ASTRA satellite take off this year, with the Gallic pay TV group selling more than 350,000 terminals for the service to date, Canal Plus said Monday.

The Canal Plus Group launched its DTT via satellite service, known as TNTSAT, on March 5, 2007, when the country officially adapted its "Television of the Future" law, a state effort to modernize France's television by moving toward complete nationwide DTT coverage.

TNTSAT allows 100% of French consumers to receive free DTT channels via the ASTRA satellite, which covers zones not reached by regular digital television. TNTSAT TV viewers can access all free 18 DTT channels in the territory in addition to public service network France O and regional versions of France 3.
