CanalPlus to Launch Children's Channels on YouTube

New channels will target 3- to 6-year-olds with educational, interactive programming.

ANNECY, France — After ending negotiations with DailyMotion earlier this week that would have seen the group invest in the homegrown YouTube competitor, CanalPlus is adding additional channels to its YouTube offerings.

Zac & Zig and Piwi are two dedicated youth channels that will debut for children ages 3 to 6 on the Internet platform. Zac & Zig will offer basic educational programming for children, such as learning letters and sounds, as well as other participatory games. Piwi will offer series episodes of cartoon favorites as well as additional educational programming.

CanalPlus ended its discussions with DailyMotion and parent company Orange on Tuesday due to differences in revenue-generating strategy, namely developing pay channels on the platform. Content on DailyMotion is currently free with an ad-supported revenue model similar to YouTube's.

CanalPlus' current YouTube offerings in various categories have over 12 million subscribers.

Zac & Zig and Piwi will launch on June 18.
