The crime drama is based on Jussi Adler-Olsen’s best-seller about two cops tracking a psycho killer.

BERLIN – TrustNordisk will start pre-sales of crime drama The Keeper of Lost Causes, based on the best-selling novel from author Jussi Adler-Olsen, at the Cannes film market next week.

Nikolaj Arcel, the screenwriter for the original The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo and Mikkel Nørgaard, director of Danish box office smash Clown are teaming up to adapt Adler-Olsen's book. The story focuses on two cops who become obsessed with a five-year old case involving a missing woman. Their investigations lead them on a pan-Scandinavian search for a psycho killer.

Louise Vesth, whose credits include Lars von Trier’s Melancholia, will produce Lost Causes for Zentropa Entertainments20 in cooperation with Danish broadcaster TV2. Shooting is set to begin in October.

”You do not get a film project bigger than this. It is a perfect match between a bestselling author, a high profile production company and the best Nordic talents,” said TrustNordisk CEO Rikke Ennis.

Trust’s Cannes slate this year also includes Thomas Vinterberg’s Competition entry The Hunt starring Mads Mikkelsen and Von Trier’s latest, the hard-core erotic drama Nymphomaniac, which begins shooting in Germany this summer.
