Try This Cannes Trend Now: Simple Slip Dresses

The dream of the '90s is alive on the Croisette. And according to celebrity stylists Emily Current and Meritt Elliott, you should try the slip dress thing at home, too.

Among all of Cannes' feathers, frill, glamour and glitz, a few bright spots have stood out in the form of understated slip dresses that pack quite a cool-girl punch.

At Calvin Klein's IFP party on Thursday night, stylist and photographer Hanneli Mustaparta sported a simple white slip dress that took Cher Horowitz's famous 1995 look to an entirely new level. Meanwhile on the Cannes carpet, French actress Natasha Andrews (and wife of Yves Saint Laurent film cutie Pierre Niney) sported a soft, simply styled slip dress at Friday's How To Train Your Dragon 2 premiere (where America Ferrera got, uh, creeped on by a peeping Tom).

So what's the deal with trying the look at home? Stylists-to-the-stars (and our Pret-a-Reporter Cannes trend correspondents) Emily Current and Meritt Elliott weigh in.

"The '90s style resurgence is everywhere, and this spring we are excited to see designers embracing the minimalistic, clean aesthetic of that decade. An iconically '90s slip dress feels chic and relevant, especially paired with a classic pump or single strap shoe, a simple metallic clutch and a matte, bold colored lip."

And there you have it.

Fussy dresses? As Cher would say, "As if."
