Cannes: Alibaba, Linmon to Release 3D Animated 'Robinson Crusoe' in China (Exclusive)
The French film will be released in China this summer, ahead of its U.S. release by Lionsgate in September.
Shanghai-based Linmon Pictures has acquired Chinese distribution rights to Robinson Crusoe, a Belgian-French 3D animation based on Daniel Defoe's classic novel.
Linmon will jointly release the film with Alibaba Pictures in China this summer, ahead of its U.S. release by Lionsgate on Sept. 9.
Co-directed by Vincent Kesteloot and Ben Stassen, the film was produced by nWave Pictures. It was released by StudioCanal across European territories at staggered dates from February to May. It has grossed $14.8 million to date.
Animation is a hot genre at the booming Chinese box office. Disney Animation's Zootopia grossed $236 million in China in March after Kung Fu Panda 3 pulled in $154.3 million there in February.
