Lesley Manville, James Norton, Jason Watkins and Simon Callow have joined the London-set drama alongside Brendan Gleeson and Diane Keaton.

Hampstead, the upcoming London-based romance starring Brendan Gleeson and Diane Keaton, has found itself a quartet of British stars for its supporting cast.

James Norton, Lesley Manville, James Watkins and Simon Callow have now joined the project, which is being offered to buyers in Cannes by Alison Thompson and Mark Gooder’s Cornerstone Films, celebrating its first birthday at the festival.

Set in the leafy London suburb of the same name, Hampstead – which will begin shooting later this month – is inspired by true-life events and directed by BAFTA Award-winner Joel Hopkins (Last Chance Harvey), and produced by BAFTA-nominated Robert Bernstein and Douglas Rae from Ecosse Films (Nowhere Boy, Becoming Jane), with a screenplay by Academy Award-nominated writer Robert Festinger (In the Bedroom).

Exec producers are Leon Clarance, Mark Woolley, Laure Vaysse, Jo Monk, Alison Thompson and Mark Gooder.

Motion Picture Capital will fully finance the production.

The story sees Keaton playing American widow Emily Walters, who one day witnesses a man on Hampstead's famed Heath being attacked by a group of professional thugs. The man in question, Donald Horner, played by Gleeson, has been living on the outskirts of the woods for years but now finds his lifestyle under threat from property developers using heavy-handed tactics to try to remove him. The two form an unlikely alliance as the battle escalates.

Keaton is represented by WME, Gleeson by Teri Hayden of The Agency and Larry Taube of Principal Entertainment, Manville by Sue Latimer of ARG, Norton Saskia Mulder of The Artists Partnership, Watkins by Ruth A Young of United Agents, and Callow by Simon Beresford of Dalzell and Beresford.
