Cannes: Daniel Radcliffe Circling Comedy 'You Shall Know Our Velocity'
Peter Sollett is directing the big-screen adaptation of Dave Eggers' best-selling novel.
CANNES -- Daniel Radcliffe is in talks to star in You Shall Know Our Velocity, about two mismatched friends who go on a round-the-world journey.
Tim Perrell's Process and Michael Benaroya's Benaroya Pictures are teaming on the project, which is being shopped at the Cannes Film Market by International Film Trust, the sales company co-founded by Benaroya and run by Christian de Gallegos.
In Velocity, based on the best-selling book by Dave Eggers, the Harry Potter actor will play a bookish and awkward young man who sets off with a self-proclaimed ladies' man to take a late friend's ashes to the Egyptian pyramids. Armed with a round-the-world plane ticket and a $32,000 insurance payoff from the car accident that killed their friend, their plan is to distribute the money along the way to those in need.
“Dave Eggers is a gifted story-teller and we are thrilled to be turning his hilarious yet poignant story of two best friends traveling the world into a feature film,” Benaroya said in a statement.
Added de Gallegos: “Playing the lead character in the biggest film franchise of all time, Daniel Radcliffe has managed to successfully establish himself as one of the most versatile actors of his generation, and he is perfect to play Will in Peter Sollett’s nomadic comedy adventure."
CAA and UTA are co-repping rights to the film. Sollett is set to shoot in spring 2015 from an adapted script by Wells Tower.
Radcliffe's upcoming films include Frankenstein, due out in 2015. He's represented by ARG in the U.K. and UTA in the U.S.
