The movie made its world premiere at the 2014 Cannes Film Festival in the Out of Competition Midnight section.

Sisse Graum Jorgensen produced The Salvation, and Peter Aalbaek Jensen and Peter Garde executive produced.

Set in 1870s America, the film kicks off when a settler named Jon kills his family's murderer, which unleashes the fury of notorious gang leader Delarue. Betrayed by his corrupt and cowardly community, the peaceful pioneer must turn into a vengeful hunter, slay the outlaws and cleanse the town's black heart.

"Kristian Levring has assembled an incredible cast and created a classic Western that keeps you on the edge of your seat," Sundance Selects/IFC Films president Jonathan Sehring said. "We are ecstatic to have the opportunity to work again with Kristian and our friends at TrustNordisk on this stunning and stirring film."
